(ELIZABETH, Ind.) – Harrison County authorities are investigating an apparent murder-suicide that occurred Wednesday night. 

Deputies went to a home on Greenbrier Road in Elizabeth to conduct a welfare check on 61-year-old Paul Dixon. 

Dixon had expressed suicidal thoughts to his brother earlier in the day, police said. 

Police arrived at the home and found 36-year-old Brett Dixon and 59-year-old Melissa Cochran Dixon both deceased from gunshot wounds. 

Investigators say Paul Dixon was also found with a self-inflicted fatal gunshot wound. 

Police said there is no current threat to the community and the investigation is ongoing. 

“This incident is a tragic loss, and our thoughts and prayers are with the family, extended family, and friends of those involved,” stated the Harrison County Sheriff's Department.
