(BRIGHT, Ind.) – There were 90 local teenagers who gathered for a unique, all night party in Bright this weekend.
It all started at 9 p.m. Saturday when the teenagers arrived at St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross in Bright.
For the next several hours, they participated in outdoor games, a dance party, creative presentations and Mass, while joined by 20 adult chaperones.
Each person was there for a specific reason, which occurred at 4 a.m. Sunday.
They came to watch the canonization of Saint Carlo Acutis live on television in Rome.
Kim Sprague was one of the adult chaperones who described it as a night of faith and friendship.
“The kids were especially struck by seeing Carlo Acutis's mother and his brother who read at Mass -- it made Carlo more real and helped them to really see that being a saint is possible for someone their age,” Sprauge said.
Saint Carlo Acutis is the first-ever millennial saint. He has been described as a saint for the digital age.
Before passing away at 15, he used his technology skills to spread the Catholic faith on the internet.
He has been dubbed the “Patron Saint of the Internet” for his efforts to digitally document Eucharistic miracles and other elements of the faith.
A necessary step to becoming a saint requires a miracle performed after death, which the Vatican recognizes two associated with Acutis.
One was the medical healing of a boy from Brazil. The other was a woman from Costa Rica who miraculously overcame a severe brain hemorrhage after a bicycle accident in 2022.
Organizers say Saint Carlo Acutis is a role model for young people in our society.
