(MONTGOMERY, AL.) – A bill moving through the Alabama legislature could make convictions of certain crimes against children punishable by death.
The Alabama House of Representatives passed the ‘Child Predator Death Penalty Act’ on Tuesday.
If signed into law, it would allow for the death penalty for crimes that include rape, sodomy and sexual torture of a victim under the age of 12.
House Bill 41 will now head to the Alabama Senate for further consideration.
The bill was authored by Rep. Matt Simpson and it reportedly has the support of the Trump Administration.
Governor Kay Ivey says she will sign it into law if it reaches her desk.
“This legislation protects our most vulnerable, children, from the worst of the worst. Thank you, Rep. Matt Simpson, for your work to make Alabama even safer,” Gov. Ivey said.
