(GREENDALE, Ind.) – Several students arrived at school in an old-fashioned way on Friday.
Greendale resident Ryan Goode organized the annual Bike to School event and there were approximately 60 students and 30 parents who participated.
The event encourages students and families to enjoy a healthy, active commute while promoting bike safety, community connection, and the importance of safe routes to school.
“This event is simple, but it brings out so much of what makes our community special — families, schools, police departments, and local partners all working together to create something positive for our kids,” Goode said.
Breakfast snacks were provided through the Dearborn County Health Department and the program is managed by Health by Design and funded by the Indiana Department of Health.
Bike Rodeo on May 30
Community members are invited to the free Bike Rodeo from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 30.
The event will include bike courses, bike giveaways, bike safety checks, helmet fit checks, and free reflective stickers.
It will be held at the Lawrenceburg Schools parking lot at 400 Tiger Boulevard. The Bike Rodeo is also funded through the same grant program as the Bike to School initiative.
Organizers hope the event continues to grow in future years as more families look for safe and fun ways to encourage walking, biking, and active transportation to school.
