(GREENSBURG, Ind.) – Firefighters believe someone intentionally started a structure fire in Decatur County on Sunday night.
Firefighters found the clubhouse building in Lake McCoy fully engulfed when they arrived on the scene around 10:30 p.m.
Four different departments responded and the fire was brought under control about two hours later.
The Greensburg Fire Department believes the cause is arson and it isn’t the first time in the area.
“This is not the first, second, or third time a fire at Lake McCoy wasn’t an accident. Firefighters risk their lives and safety every time one of these properties is illegally burned. This needs to stop before someone gets hurt or worse,” said Greensburg Fire Chief Nathan Stoermer.
He added that people who want to destroy a property through open burning can follow the legal process. Information is available on the Indiana Department of Environmental Management’s (IDEM) website, or contact a local fire department for guidance.
Greensburg was assisted by New Point, Napoleon and Letts fire departments.
