(Puerto Vallarta., MX.) - United States citizens in Mexico are being urged to shelter in place due to widespread violence on Sunday.
Mexican security forces killed cartel leader “El Mencho” in the western state of Jalisco which has spawned violent clashes across the country.
One Ripley County resident, who will remain unidentified for now, is vacationing in the western seaside city of Puerto Vallarta.
He and the other tourists were told Sunday to stay off the beach, charge their phones and to shelter-in-place in their rooms.
The violence has also had an impact on airline travel.
"While no airports have been closed, roadblocks have impacted airline operations, with some domestic and international flights cancelled in both Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta,” a U.S. Department of State official said.
