(AURORA, Ind.) – Firefighters responded to a house fire in Aurora on Monday morning.
Crews arrived around 7:30 a.m. to a home on Summit Drive and said it was fully involved when they got to the scene.
"Firefighters started fighting heavy fire in the area of the back porch. Additional firefighters entered the residence from the front door. The fire was knocked down. The residence received heavy fire damage," Aurora Fire Chief Jeff Lane said.
One resident suffered a minor burn while attempting to put the fire out and was treated at the scene.
“There were four cats inside the residence at the time of the fire; all four cats were located by firefighters but succumbed to smoke inhalation,” Lane added.
The fire caused an estimated $250,000 in damage. It remains under investigation by the Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office.
The Aurora Fire Department was assisted by Lawrenceburg, Greendale, Dillsboro, Rising Sun, Milan, Miami Township, and Whitewater Township fire departments.
“Aurora Life Squad was also on the scene along with the Aurora and Lawrenceburg Police Departments and the Dearborn County Sheriff’s Office. The American Red Cross was called to the scene to assist the residents,” Chief Lane added.
