(COLUMBUS, Ind.) – A Bartholomew County K9 is retiring from the sheriff's office after serving for 7 years.
K9 Jari was made possible after Bartholomew County resident Janet Buchanan made a significant donation to the program.
Deputy Brandon Sellers has been the dog's handler and will now care for Jari as a family pet.
“Law enforcement K9s play an essential role for our Office in several aspects including drug detection, suspect apprehension, and public outreach initiatives at the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office,” said Bartholomew County Sheriff Chris Lane.
"K9 Jari and Deputy Brandon Sellers have over their years together been involved in hundreds of law enforcement actions," Sheriff Lane added.
The sheriff’s office added that Deputy Sellers will also be taking a new law enforcement job in his hometown of Morgan County.
“The Sheriff’s Office would like to wish him good luck in his future endeavors and for him to continue to what has been a successful law enforcement career here in Bartholomew County,” Lane added.
