(BATESVILLE, Ind.) – A college student pursuing a nursing degree has earned a scholarship that is in honor of a former nurse at Margaret Mary Health.
Calley Kaiser graduated from Batesville High School in 2022 and is working toward a degree from IU School of Nursing.
She is the recipient of the Doris A. Brelage Nursing Scholarship through the Ripley County Community Foundation.
Brelage served as the Director of Nursing, Head of Surgical Nursing, and Director of Infection Control at MMH for 37 years.
“Calley's dedication to community service and enthusiasm to positively impact others were shared by Doris. I think Doris would have been very proud to support Calley in her nursing career,” said nurse Lisa Banks.
To qualify for this scholarship, students must be a graduate of Batesville High School or be nominated by a practicing nurse at Margaret Mary Community Hospital, be accepted into a nursing school, and demonstrate dedication to both academics and community service.
“Our future well-being depends on a robust and dedicated nursing workforce. Scholarship initiatives are powerful tools to attract and retain the brightest minds in this essential field, ensuring that our community has access to the high-quality healthcare it deserves.” stated RCCF executive director Amy Streator.
