(BATESVILLE, Ind.) – A Batesville musician and teacher will now become the owner of an international childhood music education program.

Shannon Mullins will assume ownership duties of Music Matters, Inc., which is the trademark owner of Musikgarten, in October.

Mullins has over 20 years of experience as a music teacher and small business owner. She has also been a licensed Musikgarten teacher for more than 15 years.

“Taking on the responsibility of leading Musikgarten is both humbling and thrilling,” said Shannon. “Lorna’s visionary work built a foundation that has touched thousands of families across the globe. I am truly honored to carry that legacy forward.”

Musikgarten was founded by Lorna Lutz Heyge and has been used by teachers and students in 20 countries. Its research-based curriculum nurtures a child’s natural love of music from infancy through age 9, fostering cognitive, emotional, and social development through the power of music.

Heyge said she is celebrating Mullins who will now oversee the program.

“I’m honored that Shannon will be continuing this important work. Her dedication to quality music education and her understanding of the Musikgarten philosophy make her the perfect person to lead the company into the future.”

Mullins said the company’s headquarters will move to Batesville as part of her ownership. She also plans to expand Musikgarten’s reach by increasing support and training for new teachers.

“One of her short-term goals includes hosting an annual Musikgarten convention in cities across the United States. Offering opportunities for professional development, community building, and innovation among early childhood educators,” the organization said.

She isn’t planning to make any major changes to Musikgarten in the near future, but said she will make thoughtful updates over time.

“I believe in Musikgarten's mission with my whole heart,” she said. “It has shaped who I am as an educator and as a person. I’m excited to begin this new journey and give my all to the continued growth of this incredible community.”
