(BATESVILLE, Ind.) – A Batesville police officer is being recognized for his lifesaving actions during a house fire.
Corporal Ryan Metcalf responded to a fire on South Street on September 17.
He arrived to find the back portion of the house engulfed in flames as he learned that someone was still inside the home.
“During that time, explosions were going off in the back of the residence,” stated the Batesville Police Department.
Metcalf immediately kicked in the front door and found a person that was standing towards the back of the room.
He alerted the person of the danger and the individual exited the home.
The police department says his actions likely saved the life of the person. Metcalf was recently honored with the department’s Lifesaving Award.
