Batesville resident creates petition opposing S.R. 46 lane reductions

Updated: May 13

Has gained more than 700 online signatures

(BATESVILLE, Ind.) – A Batesville resident has created a petition opposing the proposed lane reduction changes to State Road 46.

The petition was created by Jamie Bates and is titled, “Protect Batesville’s Highway 46 from Lane Reductions.”

It was created following the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) public hearing that was held last week.

INDOT provided a video presentation that shared proposed plans to reduce the highway from from four lanes to two lanes, with a two-way center turn lane, between Mitchell Avenue and Merkel Road.

The petition expresses concerns over the impact it would have on emergency response times as well as the impact on the local economy. It also calls for other alternatives to be considered.

“Possible solutions include implementing measures to improve traffic signals, constructing roundabouts for better flow management, and enhancing road maintenance strategies to better accommodate existing traffic,” Bates wrote.

The petition has more than 700 signatures. You can can access the petition by clicking here.

INDOT is collecting public feedback on the proposed project until May 20.
