Bird flu detected at Rose Acre Farms facility in Seymour

Taking steps to mitigate the spread

(SEYMOUR, Ind.) – Rose Acre Farms has announced that avian flu, also known as bird flu, has been detected at their Seymour facility.


The company said they began noticing an increase in chicken deaths on Saturday and sent off samples to be tested. 


As soon as we noticed the mortality, we immediately implemented further biosecurity steps to our already established, stringent biosecurity protocol,” they said. 


Avian flu primarily affects birds and can spread quickly while being highly contagious.


According to the CDC, the risk to people is considered low, however people who work with birds, poultry and cows, or have recreational exposure to them, are at higher risk.

“Unfortunately, we have been previously affected by bird flu, and we know the necessary steps to mitigate further spread,” a spokesperson for Rose Acre Farms said. 


The farm is working with the Indiana State Board of Animal Health and the state veterinarian to combat the spread.
