Canaan Academy recognizes middle schoolers during Royal Ball

(CANAAN, Ind.) – School dances and proms might feel like a popularity contest at times, but that's not how it is at Canaan Community Academy.

The school recently held their annual Coronation and Royal Ball or students in 6-8 grades.

The event honors middle schoolers who have demonstrated exceptional academic effort, positive behavior, leadership, and community involvement throughout the school year.

The King & Queen, along with the runner-ups, were chosen based on a year-long points program that tracks their grades, attendance, behavior and service.

“All middle school students were eligible, and the Royal Court was determined by total points earned since the first day of school,” Administrative Assistant Ashley Banks said.

Here is the 2026 Canaan Royal Court

  • King: Skylar Roblero

  • Queen: Sylvia Thompson

  • First Runners-Up: Abe Eaton & Charly Cardinal

  • Second Runners-Up: McKenzie White & Matthew Deen

  • Third Runners-Up: Kira & James Herring

“These students have shown dedication, responsibility, and pride in their school community,” said school leader Rhonda Pennington. “The Royal Court represents the very best of Canaan Community Academy’s values—hard work, kindness, and active participation.”

The roles of the King & Queen with the Royal Court are to work together to support and encourage all students. They are the influencers of Canaan's Middle School, whose responsibilities include attending and leading events.

Their first official ceremony marks the official opening of the four newly constructed playgrounds. That community celebration will be held on May 7.

In addition to the Coronation, the newly crowned Royal Court will be honored publicly during the Canaan Fall Festival Parade, where they will ride as distinguished guests representing Canaan Community Academy.

Canaan Community Academy is a public school committed to academic excellence (State Certified STEM school), character development (Kindness Certified School) and strong community partnerships. The school provides a supportive, student‑centered environment where learners are encouraged to grow, lead, and contribute positively to their community.
