(WELLSBURG, NY) – A fundraiser is underway after a church youth group hayride ended in a terrible crash near the New York-Pennsylvania state line.

Members of the German Baptist Community youth group took a hayride following Sunday church services on October 4.

A 16-year-old boy was operating the tractor when some passengers noticed the brakes begin to smoke and the boy struggling with mechanical issues.

The tractor was traveling at a high rate of speed when it rolled multiple times and pinned the driver underneath.

There were 15 people on the wagon, ranging from ages 4-19, who were all ejected during the crash.

Most hayriders did not require hospitalization, however 4 were taken to hospitals including the driver who remains in critical condition.

Members of the German Baptist church (which is commonly confused with Amish) do not receive government benefits such as health insurance.

The family of the 16-year-old driver will be responsible for 100% of the medical bills for everyone involved in the crash.
