(AURORA, Ind.) – The City of Aurora unveiled their first-ever military banners on Thursday.
There are 44 banners on display in the downtown area and each one honors an Aurora native who served the nation.
The project was launched by Mayor Patrick Schwing and City Council member Terry Hahn and they worked directly with the Aurora American Legion.
“People who really helped get this off the ground were PG Gentrup and Pam Elza in Rising Sun who oversaw that veteran banner project in their community,” said Council member Terry Hahn.
Hahn and Schwing also credited Toni and Shawn Scudder with the Aurora American Legion who played a pivotal role in the organization and development of the project.
The banners are expected to be on display through at least Veterans Day and City officials are planning to create more banners in the near future.
Mayor Schwing said he and the city officials are thrilled with how the banners turned out and look forward to honoring even more veterans in the future.
“We love our veterans here and appreciate the sacrifices they’ve made and this is one small way we can honor them,” he said.
The banners were produced by Chosen Designs in Versailles.
