(GREENSBURG, Ind.) – Staff members of Decatur County Memorial Hospital (DCMH) are being recognized for their life-saving care.
“This is only the second time we’ve presented this honor, which is reserved for moments where care goes above and beyond and truly makes a difference,” said Abby Adkins, Pediatric Trauma Program Manager at Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital at Ascension St. Vincent.
The Decatur County EMS team along with Matt Myers and Rachel Skirvin were recognized with the Patient-Centered Care of Excellence Award by the Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital at Ascension St. Vincent (PMCH).
“The care provided that day was extraordinary — a true example of the teamwork, training, and compassion that define these providers,” Adkins said.
As part of the recognition, the team received challenge coins and certificates, acknowledging their dedication and the lasting impact of their efforts.
The emergency involved multiple patients and required rapid coordination between several agencies. Responders acted quickly to assess injuries, stabilize those involved, and prepare for the arrival of several medical helicopters to support emergency transport.

“Decatur County EMS team works 24-hour shifts — away from their own families — to be ready when our community needs them the most,” said Kristol Hadler, Outpatient Services Director at DCMH.
She added, “Their care that day reflected not only technical skill but also a deep commitment to serving others. We’re incredibly proud of Matt, Rachel, and the entire team for the professionalism and heart they bring to every call.”
The event also highlighted the strength of interagency collaboration.'
“We’re grateful for the partnership of Greensburg Fire, Letts Community Volunteer Fire Department, the Decatur County Sheriff’s Office, Ascension St. Vincent StatFlight Indianapolis, Ascension St. Vincent EMS, and others who supported patient care and coordination on scene," said DCEMS Manager Matt Myers.
