(GREENSBURG, Ind.) – A new community pool in Greensburg is getting closer to reality.
The Decatur County Community Foundation pledged $1 million toward a new pool earlier this month.
Now, the Decatur County Redevelopment Commission (RDC) has voted unanimously to give $1.5 million toward the new pool as well.
The RDC pledge now brings the pool effort to $2.5M of the needed $4.5M to build it.
The push to build a new pool comes after Allen Memorial Pool closed due to deteriorating conditions in 2023.
“I believe the pool project fits perfectly into the scope of what the RDC is designed to do, and I’m happy my fellow board members agreed,” said RDC board president Don Schilling.
The new baseball and softball fields experienced more than 175,000 visitors this summer. Officials believe the pool being open nearby will serve as a complementary feature.
Funding for the pool project is being managed by the Decatur County Community Foundation.
Any business or individual interested in supporting the pool can visit dccfound.org/give-online, click on the green “Access Our Secure Online Giving Portal”, and select the Aquatic Center Project to give.
