Decatur County REMC, disgruntled members clash

(GREENSBURG, Ind.) –  Decatur County REMC and some of their members are clashing as the year comes to an end.

The electric cooperative is listing several items that they claim as ‘inaccurate information’ from a group of members who are calling for change.

Decatur County REMC denies that their fiber installation costs $55M but says it costs $15M.

The co-op also said that people claiming they are paying $75K per month to rent a lot to store fiber storage are incorrect.

Opponents say, “If you visit our county GIS map you will find that the land is owned by Raver Properties. Multiple viewers have reported that this is owned by the family of our cooperative's financial officer.”

Decatur County REMC also says the claim that electric rates are being used to fund fiber services are false.

“The fiber initiative moved forward after strong member interest and two feasibility studies confirmed it could be completed without placing a financial burden on electric members or the cooperative,” Decatur County REMC said.

A group known as the ‘Concerned Decatur County REMC Owners’ was created because they believe the cooperative is not treating all members equally.
