Eighth grader also reflects on her time at ECMS

(ST. LEON, Ind.) – It has been a busy year for the student council members at East Central Middle School.
Eighth grader Reagan Whitehead is the president of Student Council and her classmate, Dylan Kruse, is the vice president. There are approximately 30 members this school year.
One of their first projects this year was the "Chillin N’ Grillin" event that coincided with the high school’s homecoming.
“It’s a homecoming party for us middle schoolers since the high schoolers have the parade and their dance,” Whitehead said.
Student Council has also held multiple spirit weeks, a talent show and a Teacher Appreciation Breakfast in December.
They also hosted an event called ‘Bouncing In The High School’ where they had bounce houses and games to celebrate their time in middle school.
One of their upcoming events has been created to help make a difference outside of the classroom.
The group is planning a volleyball tournament called ‘Play It Forward’ at the end of the school year.
Teams of students will pay to enter the tournament. The winning team will take those funds and donate it to their charity of their choice.
For the eighth graders, it will mark one of their final events before they enter high school.
Whitehead is reflecting on her time at ECMS and says she is fortunate to go to the school.
“Just all the opportunities we get, there are so many different classes we can take, and clubs and sports and opportunities that a lot of schools don't have,” she said.
She added that one of her favorite parts of ECMS is having a great campus setting along with the staff.
“The teachers are really amazing. I just feel like ECMS has really set me up for success in the future,” she added.
She is currently planning to become a biomedical engineer when she grows up.
