(BROOKVILLE, Ind.) – Clocks will be switched backward by one hour at 2 a.m. Sunday.
The end of daylight saving time means the sun will rise at 7:10 a.m. and will set around 5:38 p.m. Sunday.
When changing clocks, local firefighters remind residents that they should take an extra few minutes to make sure smoke alarms are working correctly.
Daylight saving time was first introduced in the United States in 1918 when the Standard Time Act was passed. It was originally created to help with energy usage during wartime.
Americans remain split on the practice of daylight saving time.
A recent poll from Gallup indicates 54 percent of Americans want to do away with daylight saving time, while 40 percent say they are in favor.
