Batesville kindergartner creates downtown mural

(BATESVILLE, Ind.) – A Batesville Primary School kindergartner has her artwork on display for all to see!

Kyra Hernandez created a mural as part of the Batesville Community Education Foundation’s (BCEF) Art on Main student program.

Each kindergartner had the opportunity submit their artwork and Hernandez was chosen by a BCEF committee.

The theme this year is “Weathering Emotions” which Hernandez captured by drawing faces that range from happy to sad.

BCEF board president Ryan Holcomb said the theme coincides with some other mental health-related projects, including the outdoor learning complex at Batesville Primary and the Student Success Center at the high school.

“Therefore, we wanted to tie the mental health efforts into this year’s theme, and we think Kyra did an amazing job showing emotions. She told us that she likes her mural because it shows both happy and sad,” Holcomb said.

BCEF’s Art on Main program highlights artwork from students from the four Batesville Community School Corporation school buildings on a rotating basis.

The mural is placed on a building owned by Nick Maple which is at the intersection of George and Main streets, and Rowland Graphics donates their time to install each mural.
