Family, friends remember Mullins Motorsports owner

(LAUREL, Ind.) – Friends and family are remembering a Laurel man who impacted many lives in the local motorsports world. 

61-year-old Daniel Mullins had fought cancer for a decade before passing away on August 11.  

Mullins passed away just two days after friends and family held a parade in Laurel for him. 

He was the owner of Mullins Motorsports in Laurel and has been described as the "heartbeat of motorsports” in the area.

“He built a place where anyone could walk in and feel welcome. If you needed a hand, he offered it. If you needed a tool, he passed it over without hesitation,” a family member said. 

Whether a race was local or in another state, Mullins was the guy that everybody knew and connected with. 

His funeral was Friday and it was originally scheduled to be held at Laurel Pentecostal Church in Laurel, however that church was destroyed by the recent flood. 

The funeral was held at a Connersville funeral home where hundreds of people arrived to pay their respects. 

After the service, Danny’s casket was placed in the back of his own Ford truck. Family members said that held sentimental meaning and represented his work ethic and love for engines and racing.

The procession traveled to Laurel North Cemetery and family members say they appreciate those who paid their respects along the route. 

Danny is being remembered for his toughness, determination, and a willingness to fight through any challenge. 

“He was also known for generosity, for lending a hand without hesitation, and for being the kind of person people relied on,” said family member Brian Corbin. 

Corbin added, “In a world full of people, Be a Danny Mullins. Be tough. Be a fighter. Be someone who shows up. Be someone who works hard and helps others. Danny’s final ride may have ended Friday, but the example he set continues in the lives of those who knew him and in the community that came together to honor him.”
