(EAST ENTERPRISE, Ind.) – A woman was rescued in what could have been a deadly situation in Switzerland County on Tuesday.
The woman was mowing and her tractor rolled backwards and into a pond and flipped in the East Enterprise area, officials said.
Multiple agencies raced to the scene such as Switzerland County Emergency Response, including off-duty employees, the Ohio County Sheriff’s Department, Jeff Craig firefighters, Vevay Police and the Switzerland County Sheriff’s Department.
Officials say the female was freed from the tractor in about 5 feet of water after being submerged for upwards of 40 minutes.
Life-saving measures were administered and the woman eventually regained a pulse, officials said.
“She was flown to an area hospital and is reported to be in critical condition, however, still alive,” officials said.
While her long-term outcome is still unknown, the possibility of her surviving and recovering was made possible by the first responders.
“Switzerland County Emergency Response has trained specifically in drownings and has multiple divers on staff trained in drowning and dive medicine which significantly benefits situations like this,” officials said.
Another person added, “Ultimately, this should have been deadly situation, however the best outcome occurred because of all these resources coming together.”
