Former Greensburg officer receives new truck, honored by FOP

(EVANSVILLE, Ind.) – A former Greensburg police officer is being recognized months after he was seriously wounded while on duty. 

Sam Taylor had served on the Greensburg Police Department for about a year before he transferred to the Evansville Police Department in March 2025. 

The Evansville officer was responding to a report of a stolen vehicle on September 21 when an 18-year-old suspect allegedly opened fire and struck Taylor multiple times. 

Taylor suffered a serious spinal injury and spent the next several months in the hospital.

Earlier this month he was presented with a generous gift as he was given a new pickup that is specially-designed for him to drive. 

The truck was made possible through Evansville Fraternal Order of Police, the Evansville Police Foundation and the JD Sheth Foundation. 

“When our community comes together, amazing things happen. Thank you to everyone who played a part in supporting Officer Taylor and his family,” the Evansville Police Foundation said. 

Taylor was also honored by the Indiana Fraternal Order of Police in Fort Wayne on Thursday, June 11.
