(EVANSVILLE, Ind.) – A fundraiser continues for a former Greensburg police officer who was shot in the line of duty.
Evansville Police Officer Sam Taylor was responding to a report of a stolen vehicle during the early morning hours of Sunday, September 21.
An 18-year-old suspect allegedly opened fire and struck Taylor multiple times. A 15-year-old suspect was also arrested in connection to the stolen car.
Taylor suffered serious injuries and will hospitalized for the foreseeable future. He was flown from Evansville to another city on Friday to begin a lengthy rehabilitation journey.
The Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 73 created a fundraiser to support Taylor and his family.
“We are accepting donations on their behalf to help cover medical expenses, family support needs, and any unforeseen costs that arise while Officer Taylor continues his fight for life and healing,” the FOP Lodge stated.

Taylor served as a Greensburg police officer for approximately a year before joining the Evansville Police Department in March.
The Warrick County native served in the Army for six years and is still part of the Army Reserves. He and his wife have a 2-year-old son.
