(MADISON, Ind.) – Ripley County Prosecutor Ric Hertel served as the special prosecutor for a case against a former Madison mayor.
Timothy Armstrong served as mayor from 2008-2011 and later worked as a school resource officer for Madison Schools.
Armstrong pleaded guilty in January to two courts of child exploitation as part of a plea deal.
Investigators say he approached a 12-year-old boy at school and asked sexual questions which the boy later reported.
Armstrong was sentenced Friday to five years of probation as part of the plea deal.
Hertel said, “Based on the information that I had, the evidence that I felt was admissible in court, I felt this was an appropriate resolution.”
