Former Switzerland County soccer standout returning to field in college

Archer didn't play college soccer her freshman year

(VEVAY, Ind.) –  Switzerland County graduate Halle Archer thought her soccer career ended after her last high school game in the fall of 2023.

Archer scored 88 goals and 227 points during her high school tenure, and had opportunities to play in college.

However, she decided to attend Indiana University in Bloomington and major in Nursing.

This past year in Bloomington has reminded her how much she loves soccer.

“I was bored and truly missed the game during my freshman year at IU. I played intramural soccer and it made me realize how much I miss being on the field,” Archer told The 812.

The former Lady Pacer standout is now getting the chance. She has decided to attend IU Columbus this fall and will be part of the soccer team.

Halle is excited to return to soccer but admits she is a bit nervous about her level of play after not playing for more than a year.

“But, I am so happy to be back doing the thing I love most,” she said.

Archer will be joining a team that has several Southeast Indiana natives on it, including a Franklin County senior who signed with IU Columbus this past week.

She hopes her decision to return to the pitch serves as an example for others that sometimes life takes unexpected turns.

“I hope that people and younger girls know that even if you think you know where you want to go in life, God will always show you the path he wants you to be on,” she said.

Archer also quoted a Bible verse in Proverbs that reads, “We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps.”
