(BROOKVILLE, Ind.) – A man who was released early from prison and later attempted to kill a police officer has received additional prison time.
45-year-old Paul Kinnaman was sentenced in 2011 to 42 years in prison for dealing meth.
Just four years into the sentence, he was released from prison due to a court order from former Franklin County Judge Steven Cox, on the condition that Kinnaman gain employment.
The written order stated, “The Court now finds the Defendant has gained employment with Routin’s Home Improvements.”
Kinnaman was released, placed on probation and in 2016 he allegedly became involved in a high-speed chase in Johnson County.
The chase ended with a crash and Kinnaman pointed a gun at a Greenwood officer. The officer fired a service weapon in defense, striking Kinnaman at least once.
Kinnaman was convicted of Attempted Murder and sentenced to 62 years in prison.
“According to the case history, no orders were issued by the Franklin Circuit Court to transport Kinnaman to answer for the still-pending probation violation between the conclusion of Kinnaman’s Johnson County case and earlier this year,” Franklin County Prosecutor Chris Huerkamp said.
Huerkamp filed a motion to resolve the pending probation violation this past January.
Kinnaman allegedly admitted guilt and Franklin County Judge Clay Kellerman imposed a 30-year sentence for the probation violation.
His earliest release date is now in 2075.
