Future teachers receive college scholarships

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Several local students who are pursuing education careers are getting some financial assistance. 

The Next Generation Hoosier Educators Scholarship provides recipients a renewable scholarship of up to $10,000 per year to help pay for college. 

The grant is administered by the Indiana Commission for Higher Education and requires scholarship recipients to teach for five years at an Indiana school. 

Recipients must have either graduated in the top 20 percent of their high school class, be in the top 20 percent with the SAT, or had a high school GPA of 3.0 or higher. 

There were 1,000 applicants across the state and approximately 300 were chosen. Here are those local students:

• Paige Pendell (Jac-Cen-Del) - Franklin College 

• Saydee Hofer (East Central) – IU 

• Ty Lay (Switzerland County) - Hanover

• Morgan Esposito (Rising Sun) – Ball State 

• Abida Fishburn (Connersville) – University of Indianapolis 

• Alexandra Sweet (Connersville) – Purdue 

• Elise Roberts (Connersville) – Ball State 

• Emily Bischoff (Connersville) – Marian
