(BRIGHT, Ind.) – A pharmacy burglary in Bright last summer is what launched a multi-state investigation.
George’s Pharmacy owner Blake Gillman said the store was broken into around 4 a.m. on a Sunday morning.
“We’ve had break-ins before but we could tell early on that this was different and more sophisticated,” Gillman said.
The thieves stole medication and also caused damage, including a broken glass door.
Gillman says he never expected that incident to lead to a federal case involving pharmacy burglaries in 12 states.
“When you’ve been in business long enough nothing surprises you, but you try to learn from things that happen. With that said, this one was certainly eye-opening,” Gillman said.
Investigators estimate approximately 25 people are involved in the burglary spree, stretching from Ohio to Idaho.
Officials have seized more than 20 pounds of pharmaceuticals, a pill-counting machine and other evidence that are linked to the crimes.
The case was presented to a grand jury in Illinois this week and it led to federal indictments and arrest warrants for four individuals associated with the group.
Dearborn County detectives have worked closely with Ohio authorities as well as the DEA. You can read more about this story here.
George’s has 12 locations in Indiana and Ohio and specialize in several areas including pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, and home modifications.
