Governor extends pause on Indiana gasoline tax

(INDIANAPOLIS) – Indiana Governor Mike Braun is once again extending the gas tax suspension. 

The previous order was set to expire on Thursday and would have likely led to a surge in gas prices. 

Gov. Braun says his latest decision was based on disruptions to global oil shipping lanes as a result of the Russia-Ukraine conflict as well as the wildfires in Alberta, Canada. 

“These disruptions have created new pressures on fuel prices that are driving the price of gas for Hoosiers to unnatural levels outside the norm of standard economic conditions,” Gov. Braun said.

The governor first suspended the Gasoline Usage Tax in April and expanded the relief in May to include the Gasoline Excise Tax. This new order will be in effect through at least September 5.
