(LAWRENCEBURG, Ind.) – Some Greendale Middle School students are making a difference when it comes to food insecurity among their peers.
Sacks of Snacks is a program that provides a weekly bag of food to food-insecure students to eat when their outside of school.
A typical weekly bag includes breakfast bars, individual fruit cups, individual cereals and other quick items.
Greendale Student Council members heard about the program and wanted to get involved.
They have sold Nothing Bundt Cakes as a fundraiser and it has resulted in $500 being donated to the Sacks of Snacks program.
Sacks of Snacks is organized through the Dearborn County Clearinghouse and led by Karry Holland and Kate Haring. The program currently serves approximately 360 children in Greendale, Lawrenceburg, Aurora and Dillsboro.
The GMS Student Council is led by teachers Heather Scribner and Ethan Hall.
