Greensburg 9U softball team wins USSSA national championship

(COLUMBUS, Ind.) – A Greensburg-based youth softball team won a big tournament on Friday! 

The Indiana HUSTL 9U-Staggs were crowned champions of the USSSA Great Lakes National Championship that was held in Columbus, Indiana. 

The girls faced teams from across Indiana, Michigan and Illinois and cruised to an undefeated record during the tournament. 

On Friday, they faced their biggest test of the tournament against a team from western Illinois.

The game was tied 10-10 in the 7th inning with two outs, when 9U-Staggs player Teagan Thompson stepped up to the pate and delivered the game-winning hit!

Thompson was named the tournament MVP and her teammate, Savannah Tawney, was named Outstanding Pitcher of the tournament.

This trophy comes during a very successful season where 9U-Staggs have reached the championship game in 7 out of 14 tournaments they’ve played in.
