Greensburg bank employee retires with plans to continue helping others

(NAPOLEON, Ind.) – A well-known community member and volunteer celebrated her last day of work on Friday.

Mary Lou Davis has served as a loan officer with Napoleon State Bank since 2008.

Her tenure began after she heard that the bank was building their first branch in Greensburg.

“I had always heard how great Napoleon State Bank was so I called CEO Joe Moorman, who I didn’t even know, and asked if that was true,” she recalled.

That phone call led to a career opportunity that Davis describes as a perfect fit.

“God gave me this huge heart that loves people and this has been a place where I could help the bank grow and I could help other people in the community,” Davis said.

Bank employees decorated the lobby on Friday and there were all sorts of visitors as Davis worked her final shift.

Some family members even stopped by to surprise her in the morning and were also there when she walked out of the bank for the last time as an employee.

CEO Joe Moorman, who is now close friends with Davis, was among the many community members who stopped by as well.

“I’m covered up with gifts, gift cards in my purse and it all began about a month ago. I think the mutual respect is because the bank allowed me to be who I am,” she said.

She also gave some advice to others regardless of what career they’re in.

“In any business you’re in, if you love your people and care about them you will always have a job and they will take care of you right back,” she said.

Her retirement isn’t the end of her community involvement in Decatur County.

She has been involved in numerous community organizations over the years that include Big Brothers Big Sisters, Greensburg Bread of Life, Fall Festival, Decatur County Bicentennial, United Fund and more.

Davis will continue serving as a board member for a handful of organizations and has plans for her additional free time.

“I want to make myself available for people who need a helping hand. Whether that is assisting the church with a funeral dinner or driving someone to a doctor’s appointment, I just want to be open to help,” she said.

She described her retirement as bittersweet as she will miss her co-workers that she has developed close relationships with. She is also looking forward to whatever God has in store for her next.
