DC Thunder 11U is now ranked #1 in Indiana

(COLUMBUS, Ind.) – A Greensburg-based 11U baseball team won a state tournament over the weekend!
DC Thunder 11U competed against teams from all over the state during the USSSA Class A state tournament, which was held both at Seymour and CERAland in Columbus.
The team won their first six games which led to them advancing to the championship against Center Grove on Sunday where they cruised to a 14-8 victory.
“This state tournament consisted of 34 teams. The best of the best in the state and to win we had to beat a team that was previously ranked #1 in the state and #1 in the nation,” said head coach Josh Walton.
DC Thunder 11U is now ranked #1 in Indiana and the coaches say that is a testament to the determination and mental toughness of the players.
“I also want to thank the parents and their extended families for all of their support and for allowing us to coach these kids and be a small part of their upbringing,” Walton said.
He added, “Coaching any sport is a lot bigger than the sport itself. Of course we want to win and have success, but helping these young men learn how to deal with adversity and defeat their own internal struggles is the bigger picture!”
DC Thunder was started three years ago by Brian Barber who had a group of kids that wanted to play at a higher level than recreational ball.
“We are a relatively unique team in the fact that we aren’t made up of kids from several different counties,” Walton said.
Everyone on the team lives in Decatur County from North Decatur, South Decatur, Greensburg, and St. Mary’s schools.
“Our team, parents included, is really one big family and we pride ourselves on that. We pride ourselves on playing the game the right way. Our motto is Effort & Attitude,” Walton added.
