(GREENSBURG, Ind.) – A Greensburg K-9 who has assisted the department for several years is retiring.
K-9 Kato has served on the Greensburg Police Department for 8 years and was involved in hundreds of arrests.
“Kato’s specific skill set consists of Drug and Narcotics Detection, Tracking, and Suspect Apprehension. Kato was the first K-9 purchased by the Greensburg Police Department when the K-9 Program was restarted in 2018,” the City of Greensburg stated.
The 10-year-old Belgian Malinois has logged more than 16,000 hours for the department. She will retire on April 1 and is the longest serving K-9 for the Greensburg Police Department.
K-9 Kato has been in the care of Sgt. Jacob Mays for the past six years.
“Kato will stay with Sgt. Mays and his family, as she has become a member of their family,” the department added.
