Greensburg's Leah West named Class 3A Mental Attitude Winner

West was recognized for her efforts off the court

(INDIANAPOLIS) – Greensburg senior Leah West has been named the winner of the Patricia L. Roy Mental Attitude Award for IHSAA Class 3A girl's basketball in Indiana.

The award is presented annually to one player in each classification who shows excellence in mental attitude, scholarship, leadership and athletic ability.

West has excelled on the basketball court and will play collegiately at Belmont University.

She is also receiving the statewide award for her 3.7 GPA as well as her involvement in Student Council and Champions Together. West also played volleyball in high school.

“It is just so special and I’ve never been a part of this, and it is something that I will never forget,” West said about the team's season during the presentation.

Her parents were on the court at the same time and her dad said, “It is just really how she interacts with people, how she treats people and how this team truly came together as a team which was led by her and the other two seniors.”

Because of West, a $1,000 scholarship will be given to Greensburg Community High School’s general scholarship fund.

West ended her high school basketball career with 17 points and 17 rebounds in the state championship.
