(GREENSBURG, Ind.) – The Greensburg Wastewater Treatment Plant has received an award from the Indiana Water Environment Association (IWEA).
They were given the Biosolids Award, for demonstrating leadership in developing and implementing cost-effective, environmentally sound, and publicly supported biosolids reuse and management practices.
“We are extremely proud to receive this award,” said Wastewater Superintendent Joe Cain. “Our team works around the clock, every day of the year, to keep Greensburg’s wastewater system safe and efficient. This recognition highlights their dedication and the positive impact our work has on the environment and the community.”
Biosolids are nutrient-rich organic byproducts of the wastewater treatment process that can be safely and beneficially reused. They are commonly applied to farmland as fertilizer to improve soil quality and crop growth, or used in land restoration projects such as mine reclamation.
Mayor Joshua Marsh said, “The Wastewater Treatment Plant team plays a vital role in protecting our city’s health and natural resources. This award is a well-deserved honor, and we are proud to celebrate their outstanding efforts and commitment to excellence.”
