Will make two cookie recipes at the international event

(INDIANAPOLIS) – A Greensburg woman will put her baking skills to the ultimate test in Indianapolis in October.
Julia Hunter competed in the Open Class Culinary Competition at the Indiana State Fair earlier this month.
The competition is for adults and is not connected to 4-H, as only the top award winners receive a ribbon. There are also several different divisions including cookies, pies, cakes, breads, etc.
When she signed up for the competition, she was informed that some winners will get the chance to compete at the World Food Championship.
“I had hopes, like others, of getting an invitation to go, but seriously, the odds are against you,” Hunter told The 812.
Hunter has been informed that she has indeed qualified for the international competition!
“I'm guessing around 10-ish people are invited to go, but I am not sure of that number completely, but it is not many. I was also informed I was the only person from Decatur County,” she said.
Hunter added that she is shocked that she received an invite but is looking forward to the contest.
She will submit her Lemon Crinkle Cookie recipe which has had strong performances in the past. It won first place in its category at the state fair, and was also top 3 in contention to become Best of Show.
On Wednesday, Julia got another surprise when the WFC Committee called and asked her to submit her Gingerbread Reindeer cookie for the “Holiday” contest!

She will now have two different cookie recipes that will be judged among the best in the world.
The World Food Championship will take place from October 16-19 in Indianapolis.
There will be more than 1,500 chefs competing in over 800 different categories. More than $450,000 will be given out in cash prizes.
