Watch how the school surprised him on his birthday in October:
(GREENSBURG, Ind.) – Condolences are pouring in for the family and friends of the South Decatur Elementary assistant principal who unexpectedly passed away.
41-year-old Jake Rader was killed in a motorcycle crash in Versailles on Friday night.
Rader spent 16 years in education and was beloved among the students and faculty members.
He was well known for his commitment to strong relationships with students and also building a positive school environment.
Principal Nicole Stone said he made a profound impact on the school and touched countless lives.
“Whether he was helping solve a problem, building something for an event, dressing up to bring smiles to students’ faces, cheering on our staff, or simply taking time to love and support every child who walked through our doors, he gave his whole heart to our school community,” Stone said.
This past fall, the school surprised him with an incredible amount of balloons for his birthday. You can watch that video by clicking the media player above.
When asked what he liked most about South Decatur Elementary, he recently said, "I really love the school climate. The staff has done an amazing job of fostering an environment that is inviting, caring, supportive and inclusive that has a family feel to it."
Our thoughts and prayers are with Jake’s family as well as all the students and staff at South Decatur Elementary along with Decatur County Community Schools.
Here are some schools from around the region who are also offering their condolences:
