Inaugural DCMH Walk with Care raises $5K for cancer patients

(GREENSBURG, Ind.) – More than 45 community members gathered to support local cancer patients and their families this past weekend. 

The inaugural Walk with Care event took place at the DCMH Walking Trail.

More than $5,000 was raised for the Hospital Foundation of Decatur County's Cancer Care Fund, which provides financial assistance for treatment-related expenses and other essential needs for cancer patients at Decatur County Memorial Hospital. 

"Many of those who walked with us were former or current cancer patients and have experienced the cancer journey personally or have supported someone they love through it,” said Mandy Lohrum, Director of the Hospital Foundation of Decatur County.

Erin Alloway serves as DCMH’s Cancer Care Manager and said this new event is a reminder to patients that they are not fighting alone. 

“As we celebrate our first year of Walk with Care, we hope this event becomes an annual tradition that brings our community together to honor our patients, celebrate their strength, and recognize the battles they have faced and continue to face,” Alloway said. 

The Hospital Foundation of Decatur County shared their appreciation to anyone who walked, donated, volunteered, and sponsored the event.
