(HOLTON, Ind.) – The family of Landen Comer is awarding their first-ever scholarship to a firefighter.
Comer was a volunteer firefighter with the Holton Fire Department and had dreams of becoming a career firefighter.
He passed away from a car crash in Osgood in November 2024.
The Landen Comer Firefighter Scholarship was established to honor his legacy by supporting firefighters who exemplify the same passion for service and community protection that he demonstrated every day.
The inaugural award was given to Ottercreek Volunteer firefighter Lucas Riley who had served alongside Landen.
Riley was chosen for his dedication and commitment to advancing firefighter education.
“Not only was he Landen’s colleague, he was also his friend. We know Landen would be proud to see Lucas continue his training and carry forward the mission they both believed in,” the family said. “Thank you for your service, your heart, and your commitment to honoring Landen’s legacy.”
The Landen Comer Firefighter Scholarship will be awarded annually to support firefighters pursuing further education, training, and professional development in the fire service.
