Inaugural military banners being installed in Rising Sun

(RISING SUN, Ind.) – Brand new military veteran banners are being installed in Rising Sun on Monday. 

The initiative was led by Pam Elza and the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 59. 

They initially planned on doing 60 banners but it’s been such a popular initiative that there are now 110 local veterans who are on display.

Elza says 12 of the military banners depict Purple Heart recipients. 

"Also several that received high honors like Bronze stars and other medals," Elza said.

The majority of the banners can be found along Main Street and they will be on display through Veterans Day.

There will be a dedication ceremony of the banners following the Memorial Day Parade on May 25 at the Ohio County Courthouse.

"Following the ceremony, each family will receive a memorabilia box, available for pickup in front of the American Legion," Elza added.
