(INDIANAPOLIS) – Indiana National Guardsmen who deployed to Washington, D.C. last year have returned home.
There were 300 National Guard soldiers who spent four months in the nation’s capital as part of the "DC Safe and Beautiful" mission.
They contributed to a significant reduction in crime across Washington, D.C. through specialized training in areas such as de-escalation and crowd management.
A CBS News report indicated that violent crime is down 49 percent to the same period last year.
“I’m incredibly proud of these Hoosier Soldiers and Airmen who answered the call to serve,” said Governor Mike Braun. “Their work made a real difference, helping reduce crime, restore confidence, and strengthen public safety in our nation’s capital.”
As the Hoosier troops head home, the Nebraska National Guard will now deploy to Washington, D.C.
