(INDIANAPOLIS) – The Indiana State State has rejected the proposed new congressional map bill on Thursday afternoon.
The senate voted 31-19 against the measure.
The GOP-led initiative was created to give Republicans an advantage in each district, similar to some Democrat-led initiatives in states like California.
Locally, State Senator Jean Leising voted no against the measure while State Senators Randy Maxwell and Jeff Raatz voted yes.
Governor Mike Braun reacted by saying, "“I am very disappointed that a small group of misguided State Senators have partnered with Democrats to reject this opportunity to protect Hoosiers with fair maps and to reject the leadership of President Trump. Ultimately, decisions like this carry political consequences."
