KY teen accused of stealing car from dealership, leading 120MPH pursuit

Happened on January 21

(LAWRENCEBURG, Ind.) – A Kentucky teen is accused of stealing a car from Kelsey Chevrolet in Lawrenceburg and leading police on a pursuit.

A Lawrenceburg officer said he noticed a blue Dodge Charger run a red light and he attempted to pull the vehicle over.

Authorities say it led to a pursuit reaching speeds of 120 miles per hour on U.S. 48 and U.S. 50.

Police stopped the chase but ended up finding the Charger abandoned on U.S. 50.

A K-9 began tracking the suspect which led police to a nearby house. The homeowner said a black male wearing a blue jacket had knocked on the door, claiming his car broke down.

A short time later, an Aurora officer noticed a person matching the description walking near Highbridge Road.

Police arrested 19-year-old Idris Muktar, of Louisville. Investigators say he had a lanyard around his neck with a Dodge key fob and two other broken fob pieces.

According to police, Kelsey Chevrolet confirmed that a blue Dodge Charger was missing from the lot. The vehicle's VIN matched the Charger found abandoned on US 50.

“Detective Beetz reviewed security footage from Kelsey Chevrolet, which showed a man dressed in all black breaking the Charger's window, entering the vehicle, and driving it off the lot. Additional footage from White Castle revealed an orange Dodge Charger in the drive- thru, dropping off a man matching the description of the suspect, who then walked toward Kelsey Chevrolet,” Dearborn County Prosecutor Lynn Deddens said.

Muktar is facing numerous charges including Resisting Law Enforcement, Reckless Driving, Resisting Law Enforcement, Theft, Unlawful Entry into Motor Vehicle, Operating a Motor Vehicle w/o Ever Receiving a License, and Refusal to ldentify Self.
