(LAWRENCEBURG, Ind.) – Lawrenceburg senior Mylee McAdams scored a crucial goal to give the Tigers their first girls soccer state championship last November.
She remains a big part of the soccer team this season but is also part of another squad that competes on Friday nights.
“My freshman year I went to one football practice to see if I could be a kicker but I was too nervous to even try,” McAdams told The 812.
“Coaches Derick Barnes and Ryan Knigga asked if I was interested this year and I said yes,” she said.
McAdams is one of two kickers for the Lawrenceburg football team this season.
Being around a boys football team is a stark contrast from the girls team.
“When I first went into the locker room, I was like holy cow, I wish our soccer team was more like this,” she laughed. “They just have so much momentum while the soccer team is more chill.”
She added that the boys have been very welcoming and have created a great environment. McAdams said it is certainly an adrenaline rush on Friday nights.
McAdams has advice for other female soccer players who might have an interest in kicking a football.
“You should not care what other people think and just be yourself,” she said.
She added that her father is her #1 supporter of her being on the team. McAdams plans to attend IU Indy and is hoping to play college soccer.
McAdams isn’t the first female kicker in Southeast Indiana. Sophie Browndyke kicked for East Central’s football team a few years ago.
She now plays soccer for Cedarville University and was named Female Athlete of the Year for the college earlier this year.
