Cards will be sent to Mrs. Cole

(LAWRENCEBURG, Ind.) – Three students at Central Elementary in Lawrenceburg have created an initiative completely on their own.
The students have launched ‘Messages for Maggie’ where they will write uplifting and encouraging notes to one of their teachers.
Maggie Cole is a fifth grade teacher who battled Leukemia in 2023. She became cancer-free and returned to the classroom.
However, she is now hospitalized as she recovers from a bone marrow transplant.
The initiative was organized by third graders Mason Haring and Grant Lohmiller, along with fourth grader Mitchell Lohmiller.
They presented their card idea to the school on Wednesday morning.
“We’re incredibly proud of Mason, Grant, and Mitchell for leading with compassion and stepping up in such a meaningful way,” said Central Elementary Principal Staci Knigga.
The principal and school have embraced the idea and look forward to sending cards to Maggie during her journey.
“These heartfelt messages will serve as reminders that her school family is cheering her on every step of the way,” Knigga added.
Feeling that support from students isn’t new for Mrs. Cole.
While she was battling cancer, Mason’s older sister Brylee made bracelets and sold them as a way to fundraise for a wig.
