Local DJ using tips to spread kindness to others

(AURORA, Ind.) – A local DJ and military veteran is going above and beyond to help others in Southeast Indiana.

Pete Lloyd is a full-time contractor who also owns PJP Productions, which provides musical entertainment in Dearborn County and throughout the Tri-State.

He can often be found at Whitelock’s Tavern in Aurora where he hosts karaoke on Wednesdays and also DJ’s every other weekend.

Last year, a woman at Whitelock’s Tavern approached him and asked if he would DJ a benefit for a man who had PTSD and committed suicide.

PTSD is an issue that is near and dear to Lloyd. He is an Army veteran who served two tours in Iraq during the 2000s.

“I told the person that I'd DJ it free of charge. Then, I thought to myself, how could I do more to help,” he recalled.

In addition to DJ’ing the benefit for free, he also decided to donate any tip he received for the next month to the cause supporting men’s mental health. Altogether, he raised over $1,100.

Then I just kept it rolling. What were some other community things I could help? Even in the smallest way,” he told The 812.

He created a simple initiative that he calls “Purposeful Acts of Kindness”

Each month he chooses a nonprofit or family in the area. Any donations received while DJ’ing will be donated to that month's cause.

The first recipient he chose was the YES Home and donated the $500 he made in tips.

Lloyd used the tips he made in September to pay the burial expenses for a local woman who passed away from cancer.

In October, he generated $2,000 in tips which went to a local family batting breast cancer.

He used his tips in November to buy Christmas gifts for a less fortunate family.

The most recent initiative involved helping a local Vietnam veteran. He used his DJ’ing tips to purchase a water heater and then combined his construction skills to build a new deck for the man as well.

PJP Productions is collecting tips this month which will be donated to a store in Aurora that give 90 percent of their proceeds to women who have been involved in domestic violence incidents.

He says he plans to keep this monthly initiative going far into the future.

"Sometimes it can feel like nobody is doing anything nice for anyone anymore but there is still way more kindness in the world than the other way around," he said.

You can follow PJP Productions by clicking here and he does have some availability for wedding bookings.
